I made something!

I actually made something! It's a bit of single ply, still working on it though. I only have the one bobbin, so I'm not sure how I'll go about making another one for plying. Maybe a dowel or tp tube?

It's so awesome!

This is the wool I'm using, it's "100% soft grey wool, crossbred Silver" I'm not sure what it means, but hoo-boy do I have a lot of it. Each...snake (?) of roving easily splits into two, and I'm pre-drafting each of those, and spinning it fine. We'll see how it goes. I'm hoping to fill up the bobbin this weekend, figure out a storage/plying scheme, and refill it again.

Here Goes Nothing, right?

I'm not quite sure what I'm doing with spinning. I knit, a lot, but spinning is new. I tend to have big dreams of crafting, and I'm probably going to get frustrated, but I'm really looking forward to starting this new journey. I'm hoping some folks will come along with me on this.

So here's where I am. I have a wheel:

I have some wool:

And this wasn't even crowded, yet!

Cut your hair, you damn hippy...

And a few weeks ago, I went to the Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival, and took a 3 hour spinning class. I'm totally ready.

Funny story: While I was at Rhinebeck, I was looking at some beautiful merino wool, put up in one of those braids. The woman in the shop came up to me and asked me how long I'd been spinning. I replied "Oh, I'm just starting, I'm actually picking up my wheel tomorrow". She told me then that she'd refuse to sell me the wool as I'm just a beginner, and I "wouldn't do the wool justice". Can you believe that? Well poo on her, I went to another barn and bought both wool and sock yarn from another vendor.

Well, here goes my journey into spinning fiber into yarn.

I made something!
